Chelsea move to face competition from Bayern Munich to sign £42m player
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Chelsea and Bayern Munich might find themselves in a fierce battle next summer for a top striker. Both clubs have reasons to bolster their attacking options, and one name that keeps popping up is Jonathan David.
Chelsea’s Need for a No.9
While Christopher Nkunku can step in as a forward, Chelsea lack a true backup for Nicolas Jackson. The 23-year-old Jackson has been decent this season, netting six goals and providing three assists in 11 Premier League appearances. However, with a grueling schedule ahead, the Blues need another reliable option in attack.
Bayern’s Hunt for a Kane Alternative
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are flying high with Harry Kane in red-hot form. The England captain has been tearing it up in the Bundesliga, scoring 11 goals in just 10 games. But relying solely on Kane is risky, and Bayern are reportedly eyeing Jonathan David as a capable alternative.
Jonathan David: The Hot Commodity
Chelsea have been linked with several strikers, including Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres and Lille’s Jonathan David. David, however, has caught the attention of Bayern as well. Journalist Florian Plettenberg recently confirmed Bayern’s interest, stating on X:
“FC Bayern have Jonathan David on their list and are closely monitoring his situation.”
David, who is 24, could become a steal. Lille reportedly demanded £42 million for him last summer, but with his contract running until 2025, the French side risk losing him for nothing if they don’t act soon.
David vs. Jackson: Who’s the Better Fit?
When comparing the two, David has scored seven goals this season, just one more than Jackson, but hasn’t registered any assists. On paper, he might not seem like a significant upgrade. However, signing him could still make sense for Chelsea, especially if they offload Nkunku, whose future at Stamford Bridge seems uncertain.
Nkunku, not a natural striker, could make way in Enzo Maresca’s squad, freeing up space for David. And with David potentially available for a bargain, Chelsea could swoop in ahead of Bayern.
A Strategic Advantage?
The Canadian international might hesitate to move to Bayern if it means playing second fiddle to Kane. This could work in Chelsea’s favor, as they can offer him more opportunities to shine.
In the end, both clubs have compelling reasons to pursue David. Whether he ends up in London or Munich, the race for his signature promises to be one of next summer’s most intriguing transfer sagas.
