“very Poor decision” – Chelsea star blasted and won’t be getting starting place back soon
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Another chapter of the UEFA Nations League wrapped up last night, with the spotlight firmly on the clash between Italy and France.
It wasn’t the star-studded affair fans might’ve hoped for, as many big names bowed out of this international break. Instead, the stage was set for the understudies at the iconic San Siro. For some, it was a chance to shine—maybe even a lifeline. For Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku, though, things didn’t exactly go according to plan.
Just a season and a bit into his Chelsea journey, Nkunku already finds himself caught in the rumor mill, with whispers of a possible exit growing louder. Unable to secure a spot in the starting lineup, this call-up with Les Bleus should’ve been his golden ticket to turn things around. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t.
Nkunku’s Night to Forget
France sealed a 3-1 victory, but Nkunku’s performance left much to be desired. Slotted as the link man between a refreshed midfield and a two-man frontline, he seemed perfectly placed to make an impact. Yet, as the game unfolded, things went south.
Get French Football News didn’t hold back:
“The Chelsea forward was tasked with providing the link between a revamped midfield and the two-man frontline. While he took up some promising positions in between the lines, some poor decision-making and heavy touches rendered many of his involvements futile.
“Les Bleus ultimately suffered from a lack of creativity going forward – in the same vein as the majority of their games since the start of Euro 2024 – which their revitalised midfield three largely made up for on Sunday.”
Ouch. His most notable moment? A speculative shot from distance early in the second half. And, well, that was about it.
Where Does This Leave Him?
Let’s be real—Nkunku needs more than a half-decent showing with France to get back into Chelsea’s XI. With Enzo Maresca calling the shots, it’s hard to see him displacing Cole Palmer or Nicolas Jackson anytime soon, especially after a performance like this.
For now, Nkunku’s Chelsea future hangs in the balance. The question is, will he find his spark again, or is the writing already on the wall? Only time will tell.
