Chelsea heads into the international break facing a few injury concerns that could impact their squad depth. Midfielder Romeo Lavia, who exited early in their recent match against Arsenal, is undergoing medical tests to determine the extent of his injury. Lavia, after missing almost all of last season due to injury, has made an impressive comeback, regaining fitness and even challenging £107 million signing Enzo Fernandez for a spot in the starting lineup. So, seeing him walk through the tunnel during the game raised some concern.
Speaking from Belgium, where he’s preparing for Nations League matches against Italy and Israel, Lavia shared an optimistic update. He told RTL Info, “I received a little blow. At the moment, we are testing to see if it’s okay, but it should be fine, I think.”
Fofana and Gusto Withdrawn Due to Injuries
In addition to Lavia, Chelsea’s defensive lineup is also impacted by injuries. Wesley Fofana and Malo Gusto will stay behind at Cobham for further assessment and recovery. Chelsea released a statement about Fofana, noting knee discomfort that will keep him sidelined for testing. Gusto, who had been called up for France’s U-21 matches against Italy and Germany, will also sit out due to injury.
Since joining Chelsea, Gusto has proven himself invaluable, stepping up to cover for Reece James, who has been battling muscle injuries. Gusto’s adaptability has shone this season, as he has been used in midfield roles to leverage his pace and create strategic overloads for Chelsea’s attack.
With about 10 days before their next Premier League match at King Power Stadium, Chelsea is focused on getting all injured players back to full fitness. This break offers them a window to bring the team back into top shape for the challenges ahead.
