Enzo Maresca Reacts to Chelsea’s Carabao Cup Exit
In his post-match interview, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca acknowledged the sting of the defeat. “We are sad we lost the game, of course, because it’s something we don’t like,” he said. “But now we have two days to prepare for the next game.”
Maresca expressed both frustration and optimism, emphasizing areas for improvement. “We need to get better with many things. We didn’t concede any chances due to the press two days ago against them. Tonight, we did well, but there are still many things we can do better.”
Reflecting on key moments, he added, “In the last 10 minutes of the first half, we had two clear-cut chances but didn’t score. In the second half, we controlled the game. We lost the goal because of 10 minutes. For the rest, we were quite good.”
“Performance vs. Result”: Maresca Analyzes the Game
Summing up the night, Maresca said, “I think it worked if we analyze the performance. If we analyze the result, it didn’t work.” He pointed out that Chelsea held control for the first 20 minutes until Newcastle scored and highlighted the missed scoring opportunities toward the end of the first half.
