Following the game, Chelsea’s Enzo Maresca was asked about Panathinaikos fans aiming laser pointers at Nkunku as he prepared for his penalty. Maresca, familiar with Greek fan culture from his time playing there, responded with a touch of resignation.
“Here in Greece, the laser is just part of the competition,” Maresca commented. “I mentioned it yesterday; I played here for a year, and while we’d prefer it didn’t happen, it’s part of the environment.”
Not an Easy Fix
When asked if he was frustrated, Maresca replied, “No, I’m not angry. With 60,000 fans, it’s hard to control, even without lasers. We may not like it, but it is what it is.”
Maresca’s calm approach reflects his understanding of the passionate, and sometimes unpredictable, atmosphere in Greek stadiums.
