Enzo Maresca Unconvinced by Joao Felix After Return to Chelsea
A recent report has shed light on Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca’s thoughts about summer signing Joao Felix, and it suggests the manager is not entirely convinced by the Portuguese forward’s contribution since his return to Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea – Match Recap
Chelsea suffered their second Premier League defeat of the season last weekend, losing 2-1 to Liverpool at Anfield. Goals from Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones helped Liverpool secure their seventh win in eight league games. Nicolas Jackson briefly brought Chelsea level just after half-time, but Jones’ winner came minutes later.
Despite the loss, Chelsea performed well, enjoying more possession and creating more opportunities than the home side. However, the Blues were less clinical in front of goal compared to Liverpool, a point that head coach Maresca emphasized in his post-match comments.
Maresca highlighted Chelsea’s dominance in the game, particularly in possession, but acknowledged that they failed to convert their control into points. “The performance was very good,” said Maresca, adding that he doesn’t like losing games but was proud of his team’s effort, particularly in such a difficult environment at Anfield.
Joao Felix’s Lack of Impact
Joao Felix, Chelsea’s £45 million summer signing, has had a muted return to the club. The 24-year-old Portuguese forward, who made a permanent switch from Atletico Madrid, has yet to start a Premier League game this season. So far, Felix has only made five substitute appearances and has scored just once—during a 6-2 win against Wolves.
According to a report from the Spanish media, Maresca is not convinced by Felix’s performances and doesn’t even see him as a secondary option for his squad. This lack of trust has contributed to Felix’s limited role so far in the campaign. Furthermore, the exceptional form of Chelsea’s young playmaker Cole Palmer is reportedly another factor keeping Felix out of the starting lineup.
The report suggests that Atletico Madrid were justified in selling Felix, a player who once commanded a £113 million transfer fee. Whether Felix can turn things around and regain a more prominent role under Maresca remains uncertain, as Chelsea navigates through the challenges of the season.
It will be interesting to see how Felix’s situation develops, especially as Chelsea might look to strengthen further in upcoming transfer windows.
