“You don’t let others dictate” “The intention of the team has to be” – Enzo Maresca shares his Chelsea plan to face Liverpool
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Enzo Maresca is finding his rhythm at Chelsea in the Premier League, and with an important clash against Liverpool approaching, he’s provided insight into how the Blues plan to approach the game.
Chelsea missed the chance to take all three points before the international break in a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest, where they had plenty of late opportunities to secure a win. Despite this, Maresca has managed to transform the team, earning praise from key figures like Paul Winstanley for his impressive start at Stamford Bridge.
Although the squad is still a work in progress, Maresca has already managed to rejuvenate players like Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke, who struggled last season. However, Cole Palmer has emerged as a standout, contributing six goals and five assists in seven games, and Maresca will be counting on him once again this weekend.
Maresca’s Approach to Facing Liverpool
Ahead of their encounter with Liverpool at Anfield, Maresca spoke to Adam Carruthers on the Stadium Astro YouTube channel, shedding light on his tactical approach. Chelsea have been in fine form recently, with goals coming from across the pitch and a relatively solid defense that has conceded only eight goals so far—two of which came against Manchester City.
Facing Liverpool, the only unbeaten team in the Premier League, will be a tough challenge. Maresca emphasized his focus on playing Chelsea’s brand of football, regardless of the opposition:
“We’re going to try and go there, play our football and try to get points,” he stated. When asked if Chelsea will dictate play instead of reacting to Liverpool’s style, he replied, “We try always. Sometimes you struggle a little bit more, sometimes not. But the intention of the team has to be the same.”
Battle of Attacking Styles
Liverpool, under Arne Slot, have developed a reputation for their fast-paced passing and attacking flair, making this weekend’s match a potentially high-scoring affair. Both teams boast some of the best forwards in world football, and if they maintain their usual aggressive play, fans can expect an exciting and open game.
Maresca hinted at the possibility of adjusting Cole Palmer’s role due to his versatility, though he stressed the importance of keeping Palmer in a central position where he’s been most effective this season. Palmer’s creativity and ruthless finishing will be vital as Chelsea aim to challenge Liverpool’s unbeaten run.
All eyes will be on Anfield as Maresca and his rejuvenated Chelsea side look to continue their progress and make a statement against a strong Liverpool team.
