Chelsea’s Injury Woes Amid Crucial Liverpool Preparation
The Chelsea camp has been hit with a concerning injury update that could see one of their key players out of action until November. As the Blues gear up for a tough clash against Liverpool after the international break, they may have to manage without this “dangerous” player.
Strong Start to the Premier League Season
Under manager Enzo Maresca, Chelsea has had an impressive start to the new Premier League season. They have secured wins over Wolves, Bournemouth, West Ham, and Brighton. On top of that, they’ve advanced in the EFL Cup, outclassing Barrow, and managed a thrilling 4-2 win against Gent in the Conference League.
Despite their strong run, Chelsea could have had an even better record. A notable home draw against Crystal Palace, largely due to an outstanding performance by goalkeeper Dean Henderson, prevented Chelsea from securing all three points.
Thrilling Draw Against Nottingham Forest
Before the international break, Chelsea played out an exciting 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest, with both goalkeepers pulling off sensational saves. Forest’s unbeaten away run was extended, and Chelsea’s solid form continues under Maresca, with their only league defeat so far coming at the hands of Manchester City on the opening weekend. Up next, they face a real test against title contenders Liverpool at Anfield.
Key Players Stepping Up
Players like Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, Noni Madueke, Jadon Sancho, and Moises Caicedo have been standout performers for the Blues so far this season. However, not all is smooth sailing in the squad. Ben Chilwell appears to be angling for a move away from Stamford Bridge, and uncertainty looms over the futures of Mykhailo Mudryk and Carney Chukwuemeka.
Injuries have also plagued the squad, with Omari Kellyman sidelined with a hamstring problem, and club captain Reece James just returning to full training after months out.
Reece James Could Be Out Until November
Reece James has been absent since pre-season, but recent reports from Standard Sport suggest that while he’s back in training, his full return may not happen until November. The coaching staff is cautious, given his injury history, and they are easing him back into action.
It is anticipated that James could make his much-anticipated comeback in Chelsea’s Conference League clash against Noah on November 7. Maresca will be hoping that this marks the end of the defender’s unfortunate injury run.
High Praise for Reece James
Reece James has long been admired for his versatility and skillset. In a BBC interview, Manchester City’s Kyle Walker praised him, saying, “He’s got everything. If I built the perfect right-back, it would be him. He can defend, attack, he’s technically brilliant, and he uses both feet. He’s dangerous from set-pieces and has speed.”
Walker further added that if he could combine the best traits of other top right-backs, like Hakimi’s pace and Cancelo’s technical ability, the result would be Reece James. “He’s got a little bit of everything,” Walker concluded.
As Chelsea prepares for the months ahead, the hope is that James will return stronger and play a key role in their campaign.
