In the 2023 summer transfer window, Chelsea made some significant changes to their attacking lineup, letting go of key players like Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz, and Mason Mount. These stars found new homes at AC Milan, Arsenal, and Manchester United, respectively.
While Mount’s start at United has been hampered by injuries, Pulisic and Havertz are thriving at their new clubs. Pulisic, in particular, recently impressed with a goal against Liverpool in the Champions League, and Havertz has already tallied three goal contributions in four Premier League games.
Christian Pulisic’s Immediate Impact at AC Milan
After joining AC Milan for £20 million, Pulisic is quickly proving his worth. His goal against Liverpool adds to his tally of direct involvement in 30 goals since arriving at Milan last summer. This stat, shared by ESPN FC, puts him at the top of Serie A alongside Rafael Leao and Lautaro Martinez.
At Chelsea, Pulisic struggled with injuries and was unable to make a similar impact, only starting eight Premier League games in his final season and netting just once. Despite this, figures like his father and former Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta have defended his time at Stamford Bridge, with Azpilicueta even calling Pulisic an “amazing player.”
Could Chelsea Regret Selling Christian Pulisic?
As Pulisic continues to shine at Milan, questions are starting to arise about whether Chelsea might regret selling the 26-year-old winger. Meanwhile, Mykhailo Mudryk, who Chelsea signed in 2023 to fill the left-wing role, has struggled to make a strong impression. Mudryk managed just five goals last season and may find himself playing second fiddle to Jadon Sancho.
If Mudryk can find form or Sancho revitalizes his career at Chelsea, the club’s decision to sell Pulisic may be justified. However, if neither player steps up, fans could begin to question why they let Pulisic, a former Borussia Dortmund star, leave.
