What Happened?
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea is preparing to loan out Ben Chilwell, who has fallen out of favor at the club, to Fenerbahce, managed by José Mourinho. Earlier in the summer, the English defender was informed that he wasn’t part of new manager Enzo Maresca’s plans. Although there were rumors of his departure during the transfer window, no deal was finalized.
The Bigger Picture
As the transfer window in Turkey remains open until September 18, this is currently the only country where Chilwell could secure a move. If the loan doesn’t materialize, he will be forced to train separately from Chelsea’s first-team squad until at least January, when the next transfer window opens. Despite links to Fenerbahce, no formal offers from Turkish clubs have been received by Chelsea as of yet.
Did You Know?
Chelsea is eager to permanently offload Chilwell, who is on a hefty £200,000 weekly wage. However, it’s unlikely that any club will match these terms, making a loan move a more realistic option for the time being.
What’s Next for Chelsea?
Chelsea, under Maresca’s leadership, has accumulated four points from their first three Premier League games. After the international break, their next challenge will be against Bournemouth on September 14.
