Raheem Sterling and three other Chelsea players names removed from Enzo Maresca’s Conference League squad list
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Raheem Sterling, along with three other players, has been left out of Chelsea’s European squad, signaling a possible rift with new manager Enzo Maresca. This follows Sterling’s surprise omission from Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Manchester City last weekend, which raised questions about his future at the club.
After being left out of the squad for that match, Sterling’s representatives released a statement seeking clarity about his role at Chelsea. Now, things have taken another turn, as Maresca has excluded Sterling, along with Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, and Tosin Adarabioyo, from Chelsea’s squad for their upcoming Europa Conference League match against Swiss side Servette at Stamford Bridge.
While these players have been left out of the A-list submitted to UEFA for the match, there is a possibility that they could be included in the squad for the group stage of the competition if Chelsea successfully qualifies. The group stage is set to begin in October.
Sterling, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City in July 2022 for a reported £50 million, has made 81 appearances for the club. Chilwell, who captained the team for much of last season, missed the City match due to illness, which might explain his exclusion from the midweek fixture. Fofana, who has struggled with injuries since joining Chelsea from Leicester City in 2022, has only made 16 appearances for the club. Adarabioyo, who joined Chelsea as a free agent this summer, has yet to make his debut.
Sterling’s future at Chelsea remains uncertain, with his camp previously expressing confusion over his exclusion, especially after he was featured in official club materials leading up to the match. They have stated that they have always had positive discussions with the club regarding Sterling’s role and are now seeking further clarity on the situation.
