Chelsea Could Sell £35 Million Player Before Deadline Day
Chelsea’s Ongoing Efforts to Trim the Squad
As Chelsea continues to streamline Enzo Maresca’s squad and balance the books, they have informed a £35 million player that he could be sold before the August 30 deadline.
Potential Exits After Gallagher’s Departure
One of the most controversial moves of the summer window has been Chelsea’s decision to sell Conor Gallagher to Atletico Madrid for around £36 million. Gallagher, a fan favorite and Cobham academy graduate, was pivotal under former manager Mauricio Pochettino, starting 37 Premier League games and helping Chelsea qualify for the Europa Conference League.
Despite his contributions, Gallagher rejected Chelsea’s three-year contract offer, prompting Todd Boehly and BlueCo to greenlight his transfer to Atletico rather than risk losing him for free next year. The move has drawn heavy criticism from figures like Emmanuel Petit and has sparked concerns about further unpopular exits.
Trevoh Chalobah and Other Potential Departures
Trevoh Chalobah, another Cobham graduate and lifelong Chelsea fan, is also up for sale, having been excluded from the pre-season tour. This decision has not sat well with supporters, echoing the sentiment surrounding Gallagher’s departure.
Additionally, David Datro Fofana is reportedly set to join Leicester City on loan, and other players such as Cesare Casadei and Romelu Lukaku might also be on the move.
Armando Broja’s Uncertain Future
Striker Armando Broja is another player likely to leave before the transfer window closes. According to Football Insider and journalist Wayne Veysey, Chelsea officials have informed Broja that he could be sold alongside Chalobah. Broja’s loan spell at Fulham last season was disappointing, as he struggled to find playing time behind the rejuvenated Rodrigo Muniz.
The Blues reportedly value Broja at around £35 million, though finding a club willing to meet that price could be challenging. Juventus has shown some interest, but no concrete bid has materialized yet.
Interestingly, Raheem Sterling has praised the 22-year-old’s speed, comparing him to Manchester City star Kyle Walker. “We rate Walker as one of the fastest footballers of the last decade,” said Sterling. “I think Armando Broja is as fast as Kyle Walker.”
As Chelsea navigates these potential sales, the club’s efforts to balance the squad and finances will continue to be closely watched by fans and pundits alike.
