Sterling’s Uncertain Future
Chelsea are reportedly preparing a seven-year contract offer to secure a “quality” forward who could potentially replace Raheem Sterling this summer.
Sterling’s Decline Under Pochettino
Sterling, 29, scored 10 goals and provided eight assists in 43 appearances across all competitions last season. Despite these numbers, his form under manager Mauricio Pochettino was often questioned. He was a regular starter for much of the season but was eventually benched towards the end of the 2023/2024 campaign. The former Liverpool star managed only three starts in his last 11 league games for Chelsea. With new manager Enzo Maresca at the helm, it’s unclear if Sterling will regain his starting spot.
Potential Transfer and National Team Aspirations
There have been reports suggesting Chelsea might use Sterling in a player-plus-cash deal to sign Michael Olise. However, Olise chose Bayern Munich over Chelsea. Sterling himself has reportedly accepted that he might need to leave Chelsea to reclaim his spot in the England national team. He missed out on Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024, with players like Eberechi Eze, Jarrod Bowen, and Anthony Gordon preferred. Since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Sterling hasn’t been selected for any England squad, indicating he has significant work to do to get back into contention.
A move away from Chelsea could offer Sterling more game time and a chance to prove his worth. If he does leave, Chelsea are already eyeing a replacement.
Chelsea’s Interest in Karim Adeyemi
Seven-Year Contract Offer
Chelsea have been linked with Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi. Reports from CaughtOffside suggest that Chelsea are planning to offer Adeyemi a seven-year contract. The 22-year-old could replace Sterling, who has attracted interest from clubs in the Middle East.
Adeyemi’s Recent Performance
Adeyemi contributed seven goals in all competitions for Dortmund last season and has previously troubled Chelsea in European competitions. He scored the winning goal against Chelsea in a 2023 Champions League match. Dortmund’s then-manager, Edin Terzic, praised Adeyemi’s quality and speed, highlighting his ability to accelerate the game and score crucial goals. Terzic expressed hope that Adeyemi would continue to deliver such performances.
