High-Earning Chelsea Player Greenlights European Move
A high-earning Chelsea player has given the go-ahead to join a major European club, as new manager Enzo Maresca looks to revamp the squad according to his vision. This summer, several players are expected to be sold to facilitate this transformation.
Departures from Stamford Bridge
Thiago Silva and Ian Maatsen are the first notable exits from Chelsea. Silva has returned to his boyhood club, Fluminense, after his contract with Chelsea expired. Meanwhile, Maatsen has completed a £40 million transfer to Aston Villa, with Omari Kellyman moving to Chelsea in a separate £19 million deal.

Attention now turns to who else might leave the club. Co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley have already had a busy transfer window, bringing in Kellyman, Tosin Adarabioyo, Estevao Willian, and the young Barcelona striker Marc Guiu. According to various reports over the past few months, several players could be on their way out this summer.
These players include Armando Broja, Malang Sarr, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Trevoh Chalobah, Omari Hutchinson, Lesley Ugochukwu, Marc Cucurella, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Conor Gallagher. Gallagher, who has just 12 months left on his contract, might be sold despite being one of Mauricio Pochettino’s standout performers last season. Although Cucurella had a strong finish to the season and impressed for Spain at Euro 2024, his future at the club remains uncertain.
Romelu Lukaku’s Future
A more straightforward candidate for departure is Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian striker, who cost Chelsea £97.5 million in 2021, earns £325,000 per week and seems unlikely to have a future at the club. Lukaku has spent the last two seasons on loan in Serie A and continues to attract interest from Italian clubs.
Lukaku’s Move to AC Milan
According to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan is one of the clubs interested in Lukaku. The striker has reportedly agreed to join Milan from Chelsea. However, there is a potential hurdle in the negotiations: Milan wants to secure Lukaku on another loan deal, and it remains uncertain if Todd Boehly will approve another temporary move.
