“Amazing” – Darren Bent can’t believe what age £50m Chelsea player actually is
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Chelsea has been nurturing a notably youthful squad at Stamford Bridge this season, albeit seasoned with a few veterans. This blend of youth and experience might be contributing to the inconsistent performance of Blues under the helm of Mauricio Pochettino.
Darren Bent, a pundit for TalkSPORT, recently made an intriguing observation regarding Chelsea’s star player, Raheem Sterling.
Sterling, aged 29, has had a couple of weeks during the international break to reset and refocus. As one of the senior members of the squad, there’s added pressure on him to lead by example. However, his individual performance has been below par since the beginning of the year. Speaking via ESPN, Mario Melchiot highlighted that Sterling hasn’t been performing up to his usual standards lately.
Hopefully, Sterling will make a strong comeback at Stamford Bridge, starting with the upcoming match against Burnley in the Premier League. Bent expressed astonishment at Sterling’s age, remarking that despite being only 29, he’s often perceived as much older.
Nevertheless, Bent believes there’s still a path for Sterling to regain his place in the England national team if he can improve his form at the club level. Despite a challenging season with only six goals and three assists in the Premier League, Bent remains optimistic about Sterling’s potential, citing his ability to quickly regain top form.
Sterling’s journey has been remarkable for a 29-year-old. With over a decade of top-level experience across Liverpool, Manchester City, and now Chelsea, he has amassed an impressive record of 373 Premier League appearances, 121 goals, and 86 assists. Additionally, his contribution to the England national team includes 20 goals in 82 senior caps.
Despite his achievements, Sterling often doesn’t receive the recognition he deserves, particularly in light of his four Premier League titles.
Chelsea is in need of more leadership within the squad. Sterling has the potential to lead by example with his performances, but he must rediscover the consistency that has been lacking recently. With the final few months of the season approaching, there’s still an opportunity for the squad to come together and salvage what has been a disappointing campaign.
