“I had a gut feeling” – Petr Cech shares why he left Chelsea after Todd Boehly took over the club

Petr Cech, Chelsea legend and former board member, has revealed the reasons behind his departure from the club as a Technical and Performance Advisor. Speaking to Sky Sports, Cech explained that he had concerns about his position when Todd Boehly took over as the new owner of Chelsea just under two years ago.
Boehly’s ownership has brought significant changes to the club, both on and off the pitch. The first team has undergone a transformation, with unexpected departures like Mason Mount. Off the pitch, there have been personnel changes, including the departure of club legends.
Cech shared the backstory of his decision to leave his role at the club, stating, “I miss my work, but I don’t have regrets, because I believe that when you make such a significant change, I was too worried I would always be comparing to what has happened to what may happen in the future.” He emphasized the importance of working in the best possible way and having individuals aligned with the club’s values in leadership positions.
Expressing his gut feeling that he might not be in the right position, Cech believed it was in the best interest of everyone for him to step down. He clarified that his resignation was a voluntary decision, and he had respectful discussions with Boehly and Behdad Eghbali. Ultimately, Cech felt it was best for the club to have someone else continue in his role.
While Chelsea fans have been critical of Boehly since his takeover, Cech acknowledged the significant investments made into the playing squad under the new ownership.
