“I have faith in him” – Mauricio Pochettino says he has faith in 18-year-old youngster he hasn’t even started yet
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Mauricio Pochettino has dropped a hint about a potential young talent making his mark in the first team at the club. During a pre-match press conference, the manager expressed confidence in his current striker options, notably mentioning 18-year-old Deivid Washington.
Despite Washington’s limited starts for the senior team, Pochettino acknowledged his consistent presence in the squad throughout the season, suggesting the young Brazilian has made a positive impression. While Washington has primarily featured in youth sides, Pochettino hinted at the possibility of seeing him on the pitch in the coming weeks and months.
Addressing the media, Pochettino stated, “It’s important to recover Christoph. And today arrived Nico Jackson. Also, sometimes we forget but Deivid Washington is here with us. The options we have up front, I think, are enough.”
The recent absence of a natural striker in the starting lineup against Liverpool, with Armando Broja being an unused substitute, raised eyebrows. Broja’s subsequent loan move to Fulham on deadline day indicated a shift in the squad dynamics. Pochettino, however, seems content with the striking options at his disposal.
Looking ahead, Pochettino might consider deploying Christopher Nkunku in the striking role, especially after the player’s impactful 45-minute return from injury at Anfield. Nkunku demonstrated his goal-scoring instinct by finding the net against Liverpool, an element that has been notably lacking for the club this season.
As the manager weighs his attacking choices for upcoming fixtures, the mention of Deivid Washington suggests a potential breakthrough for the young talent, adding an exciting layer to the narrative of emerging prospects at the club.
