Less than half of the £200 million transfer war chest that Todd Boehly gave manager Thomas Tuchel at the beginning of the summer transfer season has been used so far on two purchases.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Based on the most recent preseason game against Udinese on Friday night, both Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly have already had an effect in different ways. Even if Tuchel is pleased with both, it is obvious that more has to be done as seen by his “urgent” appeal letter about “quality” acquisitions.
Tuchel praised Koulibaly, saying: “He is a very, very excellent addition. A strong personality, a great player. I am glad that he could play 70 minutes now. He’s getting better and fitter, which is really essential for us for the start of the season.
While there is no doubt that progress is being made on the outgoings front, with both Michy Batshuayi and Billy Gilmour rumored to join Everton before the September 1 deadline, the new owner Boehly must also step up efforts on the incomings front to please the German.
Due to conversations between Chelsea and Inter Milan over two specific players, the Italian media is suggesting that a £51 million transfer swoop may soon be in the works.
The two discussions are in various stages. Young Serie A wonderkid Cesare Casadei appears to be more skilled than the other two. While working under Simone Inzaghi and practising with the Inter first team in preseason, Chelsea has been attempting to sign the 19-year-old.
Their initial bid, which was worth around £7 million, was apparently rejected. It is said that before allowing the player to depart, they would like to get more than twice that amount, or £17 million.
As Boehly aims for an ambitious £51 million swoop for the wing-back and central midfielder, Inter is concerned that these Casadei negotiations could lead to the Dutch international also being brought into the picture. This is despite the fact that official negotiations over a move for Dumfries have not yet begun.
Casadei, who would play most of his football in the academy setup for 2022–2023 but may be given a few first-team opportunities over the course of the season if he is to shine in the Cobham set-up, might be his young replacement with Gilmour likely to go, at least on loan.
For Dumfries, he might serve as Reece James’ backup or take Reece James’ place at right wingback if coach Tuchel decides to play the Three Lions international in that position instead.
