Prior to their weekend trip to Stamford Bridge, Southampton may be missing as many as four players. On February 18, Chelsea will welcome the Saints to west London as Graham Potter attempts to go back to winning ways.
The Blues have lost all four of their games in all competitions, with their lone victory coming last month against Crystal Palace. Chelsea has had trouble scoring points lately, but their performances are gradually getting better.
Potter’s team is presently 10th in the Premier League, four points behind Newcastle United in fourth place. Southampton, on the other hand, is fighting for survival without a manager as they are at the bottom of the standings.
At St Mary’s Stadium, assistant coach Ruben Selles has taken over after Nathan Jones was fired earlier this week. In a press conference before the Saints game, Potter described the special difficulties a team without a permanent manager faces.
The Chelsea manager added, “You’re not sure at all how they’re going to go.” Because they are a caretaker manager and have had a week to plan and gather ideas, “everything can come at you pretty much.” The difficulty is that previous occurrences do not serve as a guide. We need to concentrate on what we do well and on ourselves before ensuring that we are prepared for the challenge. A significant obstacle is heading our way.”
Southampton may be without four crucial players in addition to having a manager. In light of this, football.london has looked at players the Saints may be without against the Blues.
Larios, Juan
Selles remarked in a press conference prior to Southampton’s matchup with Chelsea: “Juan Larios first suffered an injury, and then Tino Livramento.
“These wounds require long-term care. a few boys who didn’t work out at the start of the week but did at the conclusion.”
Livramento Tino
In April, Livramento suffered a severe knee injury as a result of a clumsy landing during Southampton’s 2-2 draw with Brighton. Following a scan, it was discovered that the former Chelsea defender needed surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament tear. The 20-year-old is still taking care of his wound.
Toby Adams
Adams will likely not play against Chelsea, according to Selles. The Scottish international has faced off against the Blues seven times throughout his career and has personally assisted in four goals.
Che Adams is questionable for tomorrow, he said, but that’s all. “We will be prepared with everything, and we have a sizable squad to choose from.”
KyleWalker-Peters
Walker-Peters suffered a hamstring injury and had to leave the field in the first half of Southampton’s Carabao Cup loss to Newcastle at St. James’ Park at the end of January. After continuing his recovery, the defender has not yet made a comeback.
Due to a similar ailment, he already missed four games in October and November. If the Premier League hadn’t been postponed until mid-December due to the World Cup, he would have likely missed more.
